Desktop Product Design
Among my other projects at SmartAsset, I was involved in the development of a tailored billing system. As the company's client base continued to grow rapidly, relying on the existing manual billing process became less practical. Therefore, an automated system became essential to streamline and improve billing efficiency. The objective was to create a mechanism for invoicing individual financial advisors or advisor groups, taking into account their allocated budgets and the number of valid leads allocated to them throughout the month.
Pre-ideation
The billing and invoicing system constituted just one aspect of a broader scope that encompassed the profile section for both financial advisors and firms. Initially, the billing functionality was conceptualized as a single, vertically scrollable page featuring expandable sections designed in an accordion-style arrangement.
Research & wireframing
To understand existing processes and challenges, we interviewed multiple account managers who were the primary users of the billing system. As we delved into their workflows, it became clear that the initial concept of a single-page design wasn't practical. We needed to reorganize the content into separate sections. Through continuous discussions with the Product and account managers, I iterated on wireframes, adapting and refining the product's design to align with our evolving understanding.
Prototyping & testing
The design has a simple and uncluttered look, avoiding unnecessary embellishments to keep users focused on the numbers and information. To conduct user testing, I built interactive prototypes with InVision. Collaborating with the User Researcher, we conducted used testing and identified minor issues that we then addressed through iterative design refinements.
